The largest tricounty cluster is at Lutheran Westland High School, with six students and staff members testing positive. (Numbers for each category are not given.)

The small parochial school on Cowan Road, serving 190 students, switched to remote learning for nine days last week "due to the number of students who have been quarantined for 14 days" because of close contact with those diagnosed, principal Steve Schwecke says in a message to parents.

"This is not a matter of rapid spread of Covid through the school, but rather due to the safety protocols from the Wayne County Health Department that we are following. We need to remain diligent in following all protocols and especially the health screening measures that have been sent to all staff and families. ...

"We continue to pray that we can return to in-person learning [March 1] and move forward through the rest of the school year with in-person learning."

The state health department rundown shows schools reporting at least two coronavirus cases involving different households and apparent exposure on school grounds. "Case counts for school-related outbreaks include those associated with before- and after- school programs (e.g., school-sponsored sports)," the agency posts
